STATE AND OPERATOR (AIRLINES) VARIATIONS
Some States and operators use their right to be more
restrictive than the ICAO technical instructions. These variations are filed
with ICAO and IATA.
State Variation: State variations use a three-letter
code. Example USG: United States Government
The variations
published by the states (countries) involved in the routing form (State of
origin) through (State (s) of transit) and to (State of destination) and the
operators (airlines) involved in the transport and the State of the operator
are those that must be applied to the shipment.
Example: MYG-01 is a Malaysian Government variation that
applies to operators that transport any class of dangerous goods which:
a) Originated in Malaysia.
b) Transit through Malaysia
c) Or destined for Malaysia; and
d) Are transported by an operator registered in Malaysia wherever
it is operating.
Operator Variations: Operator variations use the
airlines two letter IATA code. Example FX: Federal Express
Example: OS-01 is an operator variation listed by Austrian
Airlines and applies to all dangerous goods consigned for carriage on this
airline.
UNIT 3 – CLASSIFICATION
Dangerous goods are divided into 9 classes. Classes are
expressed by
Single digit numbers.
Example, Class 7.
Classes 1,2,4,5 and 6 are divided into "Divisions"
due to hazard variation within these classes.
Divisions are expressed by 2-digit numbers. The first digit
identifies the Class number and the second identifies the variation within the
class
Example, Oxidizer is Class 5, Division 1, and is referred to
as "Division 5.1"
